Chargeback Reason Code

The issuer assigns a reason code to each chargeback to help the merchant understand why the transaction was disputed. The chargeback reason code also regulates things like the timeline and the documents (or compelling evidence) that must accompany a response.

Also referred to as dispute condition. (Mastercard and Visa often use different terms to express the same concept. Mastercard uses the term “chargeback reason code”, but Visa uses “dispute conditions” instead.)
