Visa manages disputes with two workflows: allocation and collaboration.

The reason code the issuer assigns to the dispute will determine which workflow will be used for resolution. The allocation workflow is used to manage fraud and authorization disputes.

Allocation takes advantage of Visa’s internal data and automated technology to assess liability to either the issuer or the merchant when a cardholder disputes a transaction.
